Does My Site Convey A Brand New Marketing Channel?

Posted by Anonymous on 125 Points
Hi Guys. My site www.mygeoreader.com is working hard to convey a lot of information.
It must describe the apps
Educated the users on their use
Compel visitors to download the apps
Explain the concept of GPS based advertising with user created messages.
Compel advertisers to give it a try.
Entice non profits to participate in the give back program
Answer questions for all parties

There is a lot going on. I am curious if after visiting it, a person "gets it". I am very open to your impressions on how its doing with these factors. Any suggestions are appreciated. Dave

Your page contains so much stuff it communicates nothing. It's just a sea of words, and whatever benefit users might realize from doing whatever you want them to do is totally lost.

You need to back up and put the elevator pitch (with the benefit front-and-center) on your homepage. Nothing else. Just the benefit. If site visitors don't know what's in it for them, all that other stuff is irrelevant.

Your site is trying to cram everything onto the homepage. Big mistake.

P.S. It would be nice to see some sign of a human on that page. How about a picture of someone enjoying/benefiting from whatever you do for them?

I didn't "get it" until I watched your video.
You might have a chicken-and-egg problem though - to download/use an app, I'd want to know that there are talking points in areas I care about. But if there is little/no information, then I won't care. Unless you can populate your database with lots of relevant/current information (currently you have just places on the national registry), your app is depending upon people to create the data to sell the app.

Thanks fellas. Good feedback. There is, as with anything new, a definite chicken and egg problem. Depending on the area of the country one is in, you would find more varied data but there is still plenty of room for more. I do have about 25,000 downloads of the Android so far so it is making progress but I an always hoping for more.

I agree with Jay about the chicken and egg situation.

There are only three markers in Australia so if I were to buy the ap I would have a quiet trip wherever I go.

I think you need to segment your market into those who will be enthusiastic markers, and those who just want to be listeners.

GIVE the ap away free to people who record markers. They are your content creators. You have a vehicle, i.e. the ap, but practically no content.

Without content your ap will wither on the vine. In fact, you need to recruit marker makers and PAY THEM to get your content up and running. If not in cash, ten some other kind of incentive.

Incidentally, I started watching the videos but found the constantly moving target too irritating to follow. It made me feel nauseous, in fact - like travel sickness. Could you not have used a tripod or some other way to fix both camera and mobile phone, so the image was more stable?

Hi. Could you elaborate on the particular video the could used more steadying? I may be able to replace it. There is an incentive for historical organizations to contribute points, up to 10% of net revenue and 50% of advertising for now as my hope that 1) they know their areas, 2) they could always used another source. However; if this wasn't clear then that is good feedback as well. Right now the app is US focused simply because that data was available to me. If there are any sources of data that may fit in Australia, please let me know. There are many who are happy just to listen so some way of rewarding those who contribute is a good one. It would be good if one created x number of quality points, the could upgrades for free to a more advanced version. This makes sense and I need to check further if this could be done based on store limitations and my budgets. (tiny)
    Thanks
