Looking For Guidance In Fitness Marketing

Posted by Anonymous on 500 Points
It's about that time again where people put down the sangria and set a new schedule for themselves and their families. Back to school is around the corner as well!

I have a plan in place for my group training business and it can easily earn it over 6 figures quickly on an EFT type system in place. The only thing is how to get the word out there effectively and inexpensively too!

Now I've called all my family friends, friends past clients and pretty much everyone I know (over 300 people) about this over 3 weeks ago. I'm thinking the back to school method will wake them up again if I call them again, but I want to hit it harder (the marketing I mean). I think I'll explain the deal so you can understand it a bit better.

I'm offering as low as $15/session for group training
They can train virtually wherever (with hopes to eventually have my own facility)
Choose between 30 or 60 min sessions
(I might sell my boot camps to them as well, but the price is waaaay lower so I might just leave it out completely)

I was thinking of calling all restaurants, health stores etc for coupons for my clients and see if any of their employees would like to join after I meet with the GM.

Maybe going door-door, which could be tedious.

Or calling all the school districts in my city to get some teachers on board.

That's it for now, my niche is mostly woman ages 18-50.

When you say "The only thing is how to get the word out there effectively and inexpensively too!" there is one answer and only one answer - the internet. Google has what they call display network advertising which is part of their Adwords interface. It's not hard to use, and it's relatively inexpensive in terms of time and money.

It's way better than trudging the streets, furthermore it'll tell you which streets you should be trudging for better results ;-)

You can hone taglines and discover who is really interested and why. It's all backwards marketing - and because you're letting your customers drive, it's incredibly powerful.

Does this say anything to you? If so, I can go into more detail - if not, why not? I'm happy to advise, only my advice usually starts with Google because there's nothing more effective.

    Unless of course you're a magician ;-) ;-) ;-)

If you charged higher fees, you might be able to spend more on marketing AND earn the same amount of money with fewer clients. Don't let your current fees determine the marketing plan. It should be the other way around.

Instead of trying to sign people up 1-by-1, can you approach groups of people (teams, clubs, etc.) and pitch them? The bonus is that they'll know everyone in class and you could use their venue.

@moriarty I'm researching methods on how to effectively use Adwords, I just don't think I have the website power to convert. My skills are with my voice and salesmanship, it's a little magical! ;)
@mgoodman that whole, "the more I charge the more ill make" is overused and doesn't allow for much attrition.
@jayhr that's a nice idea jay, would that fall into the 'I need to know someone on a team' category, or how would you pitch/set that up? Also could this be similar to getting teachers?

Thank you for the great responses all!

Do your research on various teams. How well connected are they (how many FB likes, for example)? What problems are they facing (apathy, funding, group connection, etc.)? Then contact them, positioning your offering as solving the problems that you're seeing. But you need to do your homework before you can sell them anything.

If your skills are "My skills are with my voice and salesmanship" - and you imagine talking to someone, and write it down. Then post it on your website.

Believe me, you'll beat most websites on the planet.

    And that includes mine.

    OK?

Just add "adwords", think of the objections, questions and observations you stumble across when speaking to someone - and BINGO! You have a top performing adwords campaign - and that's before you've even learned how to do it properly.

I did ask if you were a magician ...

I can think of nurses as a potential..you could target hospitals . How about Mums and their young daughters post school hours....a time to bond and get the teenage girl to get initiated into a healthy lifestyle.
