Help For Undergraduate Thesis Needed

Posted by elena.cavalli on 100 Points
Good morning everybody,
I'm doing my undergraduate thesis studying if behavioral approaches can be employed successfully by marketers to nudge consumers to choose sustainable products. Unfortunately, I do not have enough economic resources to conduct a large-scale study and I'm collecting responses to an online survey. Can you recommend a way to reach a large enough sample size, without employing expensive panels of respondents?

If you want to help me by completing it, this is the link to one of the surveys: https://www.smartsurvey.co.uk/s/ZUYVG/

Thank you!

(Aside: Your survey has lots of obvious flaws, which will limit its effectiveness & probability of getting people online to complete it.) Since you're targeting shoppers, why not go to local supermarkets and stand outside and approach shoppers (with the support of the market's owner) to get input?

Unfortunately there is no free lunch when it comes to market research. Moreover when you try to gather consumer input on the cheap you are as likely to get misleading results as good results. This means you might as well make up the results yourself without actually conducting the study!

The short answer to your question is "No."

Even if you gather the information in person by intercepting shoppers, the result will only apply to the neighborhood where you gathered the data, and only if you interview dozens of consumers with the same carefully worded questionnaire.

DIY market research is definitely not recommended if the result is important. (And if the result is not important, just generate some random numbers in response to the questions.)

I see your point. Unfortunately, I do not have the time and resources to conduct the research more appropriately... I will talk to my supervisor and see whether it is worth it to go on with it. Anyway, thank you for your replies!
