Marketing Sponsorships For A 2 Day Golf Tournament

Posted by susan.vogel on 250 Points
We have hosted a golf tournament annually for years to benefit our community hospital. Its a field of 144 golfers (men and women can participate) in a recreational shotgun start/captains choice format. We get sponsorships at a variety of levels. This year, we are adding a second tournament - an all women's competitive net/gross tourney that will take place the day before. No one in our region is hosting a women's only tournament so we are hoping to be the frontrunner in this market. We will have sponsorship opportunities outlined for this tournament as well. We have some questions — 1) should we do two separate sponsorship flyers or one that combines the 2 days of events. 2) should we provide a discount for sponsors who sponsor both or would we be selling outselves short? I've looked online for sample flyers for what i am describing but the two day only brings up 1 tournament that is spread over two days, not two 1 day tournaments that are wrapped together. Welcome thoughts on how to best proceed. thanks.

If the target audiences for the two different events are the same, and the benefits of sponsorship are the same, then there's no need to have two different flyers.

And, as for the discount -- I wouldn't offer one. Just keep them priced separately, and give sponsors the opportunity to buy one or both. A discount would suggest that you are charging more than the "fair value" to begin with. Sounds like you are inviting a negotiation.

    1) If the same sponsors are likely to sponsor both, then a single flyer. Otherwise, targeted flyers for different sponsors.
    2) Instead of a discount - offer extra value for sponsoring both events. Perhaps a pre- or post-event email blast to the attendees, VIP dinner, etc.
