Getting Hot, Hot, Hotter
Published on November 9, 2009

Does the URL to your Web page sizzle? In a recent Bloggapedia post, online marketer Bill Hartzer reports on the Alexa Toolbar's popular Alexa Hot URLs list. According to Hartzer, the list presents "the hottest Web pages on the Internet right now," and it's updated every five minutes! That should give you loads of opportunities to join this red-hot in-crowd.

Lucky for us, Hartzer breaks the list down into 11 types of winning URLs—and provides tips on how to get your site up there, too. Here are just a few ways he suggests to get your URL noticed:

Offer online deals. Run a PPC campaign and a banner-ad campaign to promote your latest offer. Get listed on the "deal" websites (like Priceline). Run a Twitter (special-offer) campaign.

Offer updates. Build a Firefox add-on or a toolbar for your site that everyone just loves to use. Then schedule regular updates, encouraging your visitors to upgrade.

Make the most of an error page to keep traffic moving. When your site goes down and your error page comes up, Hartzer suggests making it worth your traffic's while—by linking them to another (working) site.

The Po!nt: Sound a hot alarm. If you study the URLs that are getting the most traffic and take a similar approach, you might just make it onto the Alexa Hot URLs list. And for a search marketer, that's cool.
