Four Ways to Use SlideShare to Boost Your Reach Online

Published on July 22, 2010

It's the social weapon you just don't hear enough about: SlideShare.

At first glance, it comes across as a mere archive for uploading presentations, but oh—it's so much more than that!

When used correctly, SlideShare can help you cleverly boost your messaging, your brand, your very corporate presence online.

Consider these four ways to give your presentation real online staying power:

  1. Note liberally. SlideShare is actually able to upload the notes "behind" your slides and let viewers toggle back and forth between the visuals and supporting information. That means a one-sentence slide that's presented beautifully onstage doesn't have to die an out-of-context death online: Your notes give users the complete idea, not just a pretty picture. Work with keywords to draw users' attention to your notes, and to keep them there awhile.
  2. Explain eloquently. SlideShare transcribes presentations automatically, so if your presentations are supercharged with topics of relevance to your brand, you can benefit from an SEO boost.
  3. Name your Slideshare account after your company. Add relevant tags. Google can't do it all by itself!
  4. Share like your mama taught you. Tweet the link to your presentation on Twitter, embed it in blogs and post it on Facebook. SlideShare's homepage regularly promotes exceptional presentations and separately lists the ones most shared on Facebook and on Twitter. Get those channels humming!

Here's another interesting idea I learned from Nathan Kievman on how to use SlideShare to add a video to a LinkedIN profile.
