How to Be a Better Blogger

Published on March 7, 2008

We never tire of great blogging ideas, and Andy Sernovitz of the Damn! I Wish I'd Thought of That! blog applauds Jeremiah Owyang's enteprising efforts to let his readers choose how they want to read his content.

"Jeremiah does a great weekly summary on his blog that is perfectly designed for the busy reader," says Sernovitz. "It delivers just what you need to know, in a variety of formats based on how busy you are." Dubbed the Digest, Owyang's roundup enables readers to scan categorized headlines, read brief summaries and click on links for more information.

Owyang's blog, Web Strategy by Jeremiah, aims to help companies use the Web to communicate with customers. Concerned that the blog might be veering off target or not providing sage counsel, Owyang asked readers their opinions and then reported the results. "A few days ago, I asked in public how could I better improve myself," he wrote. "I received over 20 comments of recommendations, ... and all of them were genuine and helpful. This was a healthy (yet humbling) process, and I think that every blogger should consider doing this."

Owyang's Digest model might not be the best way to accommodate your readers, but his openness to criticism and incorporation of good ideas should inspire us all to improve content and the way it's delivered.
