Navigating the world of Web 2.0 can be a daunting task, especially if you're just getting started. In a post at his blog, Sam Decker says he had planned to compile of list of his favorite Web 2.0 sites and tools—each designed to help you run and market your company. But then he discovered that GoToWeb20.net had already taken the initiative by producing a 259-page document filled with links and capsule descriptions of the resources at your disposal.

"The cover says these are social networking sites," says Decker, "but the list is much more broad than that." His search on the term "invoice" returned 30 results; "chat," meanwhile, produced 167 results.

Here's a random sampling from the comprehensive directory:

  • AskItOnline is a cutting-edge online tool that allows you to efficiently create surveys and have others take them online.
  • DigitalBucket provides a Web interface that can be used to store and retrieve data, at any time, from anywhere.
  • Standout Jobs will help you produce a video job ad, something quick and easy, that will do more to show candidates about your company than anything else.

Your Marketing Inspiration comes—with a proviso—from Sam Decker: "I'm becoming more and more convinced you could run an entire company on free tools. Question is, are you willing to take the risk … as most of these companies are unprofitable and will run out of VC money at some point."
