before you go and do all the primary research above (which will cost you plenty in time and money), do the marketing intelligence that the other dudes have mentioned previously: purchasing power, competition in the area, how products are being bought currently. You may well get these answers and with it firmer ideas on how to strategise before you go to all the expense to find out that it is not viable.

Talk to people in the area, ask all the questions around buying power, how much is bought over a period, is it weekly/monthly? Who makes the decisions in the house: husband/wife/children? What are the most popular brands: you will not be able to stock all products!

You will also have to build up a relationship with all your suppliers. The last thing you want to do is not be able to 'deliver' your promises. You will lose customers, loyalty, etc. by doing this.

    I hope this helps,

    Walter
