Campaign For Elearning Module On Code Of Conduct

Posted by Anonymous on 250 Points
I have to launch an elearning module on Code of Conduct for all employees across the country.

All the existing stratagies: email, posters, desktop wallpapers, intranet banner etc have already been used extensively. So much so that the employees are overwhelmed and hardly pay any attention to all of these.

Also, this is a module that is not going to satisfy any unmet or hidden need of the employees. This aims to make employees more ethical. Or help them make an ethical choice whenever faced with an ethical dilemma.

Please help me with some fresh ideas to generate some interest in employees to undertake this elearning course.

Instead of pushing information to them, have a contest. Ask them for ethical problems they've faced and how they've solved them. The best problem/solution would win a prize. The other entries would be used to create articles for future newsletters.

The module aims to help employees make the most ethical choice whenever faced with a dilemma. Many a times, we don't even realise that the normal course of aciton they are taking is not the best choice or is unethical. It doesn't call anyone unethical.

The top management will also undetake this course.

I work in the ethics and Corporate responsibility department. We came up with the idea of this module when we realised that none of our employees read our code of conduct booklet. It keeps lying at the bottom of the drawers. As a result, many employees remain unaware of the right things to do. Some examples would be : gifts and entertainment, conflict of interest, company assets and properties etc. We have designed this module keeping it closest to the ground level issues. The entire module is highly interactive involving scenario based learning or right-wrong statements.

We hope to raise the employee awareness level pertaining to code of conduct through this module.

I once again ask for some ideas for an effective launch of this module.

As the module is something which you seem to think is an undesired commodity which is chasing the unwilling participants with a zero reward strategy, I’m not surprised that it languishes at the bottom of peoples drawers. It sounds like the compliance and health and safety rubbish which is in danger of strangling innovation in British business, in particular in banking where it is now far more acceptable to blow eight billion dollars of client money than it is to unintentionally offend a religious minority by celebrating a festival of the religious majority such as Christmas (AKA Winterval!!!) and Easter (AKA Egg-tide!!!)

I’m afraid that if you are charged with implementing this tosh then from our experience, mandating people’s involvement is about the only think that works. Give them a daily quiz of 3 or 4 questions on the company intranet which must be completed before they can log onto their email system. That will ensure compliance and a strong tendency to move somewhere where real work is valued, such as India.
