Ideas For 10 Year Employee Art Event

Posted by Anonymous on 250 Points
My company is celebrating the 10 year anniversary of its yearly employee art show. This year, I really want to make it a memorable event that will set the precedent for future shows. So far, I'm thinking about making this a mock “red carpet” galley opening (the week-long event will be held at the company during the day). I’ve been throwing around “A Decade of Art” or “A Decade of Creativity” but neither really seems to set the scene that I’m envisioning.

I need help with the following:
*A classy and memorable name/slogan
*Ideas for the anniversary that focuses on art
*Gifts for artists and participants. We normally distribute pins. I was thinking a floating frame certificate would be nice or some other type of 10 celebration item that would be associated with art.

Thanks in advance for your creative suggestions.

Call it "A Decade of Art" (ALT: decadeART), - frame a couple of Plasmas with golden picture frames and provide several slide shows of snaps of art from the last 10 years -- this would definitely be a hit with seniors of the event.

Partner with a local gallery, art school or alternative publication that is big in the artistic community (here in Toronto, that would be NOW Magazine).

Cross-promote with them (see the winners on display at ABC Gallery, bring in judges from the art school and have them promote the event to their students and through their own channels, etc.).

In a similar way, is there a local or state program to encourage the arts? Get the mayor or city councilor or governor or whoever involved to give away prizes or make a speech and that will help get media attention both before and at the event.

I like the red carpet concept. You could push that even further and have a camera person and interviewer talking to people as they enter, as they do at the Oscars, etc.

I also like the red carpet--what about really doing it up right as like a Hollywood premier? It could also be fun to do videoblog quick clips with past winners and see what they're doing now. Maybe feature a mini retrospective with each past winner or two every day of the week.

Or how about "The Power of 10"--and see if there's a community outreach program that's art-related that you can tie into to make a difference. Maybe play up how art makes a difference in lives--art at senior centers, art for at-risk children, art for prisoners, art for children who've been abused. Create a theme around art as transformational.

You could also do a tie-in with your local library and galleries to play up the occasion and expand it to include the community. If you have a local university, that's another good partner. Libraries, galleries and universities are good sources to bring in lunchtime speakers during your festival week about art, getting started in art, appreciating art, reducing stress, etc.
