Positioning On Google?

What is the most cost effective way to drive traffic to your site or to have your site come up as close to the top as possible on Google and other engines?

I assume you are talking natural search (not paid search, like the Google AdWords that show up on the right side).

There is a whole industry based around this, including some top consultants being "experts" on this site.

You can get a start on this by entering "Google" into the search box in the Blue bar up top of this web site. There are a bunch of articles on how to get higher search rankings (some require that you be a premium member to view, but they are worth paying the $5 for a month of premium membership, as you can get immediate improvements by reading them).

darrin,

A couple resources for you, an article in this month's Marketing Profs news letter--also there were two previous articles. This one is written by Oneupweb president Lisa Wehr (also my boss) http://www.marketingprofs.com/4/wehr1.asp

You'll find lots of resources in our library on Oneupweb.com. May I suggest our Guide first. Finally, when you've exhausted this site, ClickZ.com is also a great resource. Check out the experts sections.

good luck--

I understand that one of the chief criteria is how many links are out there to your site. Affiliate programs count for something. So here's an idea.

If you do any advertising at all, ask if you can have a link put on the meia's web site. I don't care where it is, if it is buried on page 5 or if it is at the bottom of a 14" long scroll down page.

If links are a part of the formula, get on as many as possible.

The more and better your keywords are, the better your site will end up on Google. Do some research on key words to get the most mileage.

make blast pages, pages with different meta tags etc and links to other parts of your site and submit them to google.com

The days of publishing a site and submitting it to all the engines to immediately show up near the top are gone.

So, you'll need to create a good campaign for yourself and stick to it.

Some things you should consider are:
- PPC (pay per click) campaigns with google Adwords
- SEO (optimizing your pages for free search results)
- Requesting links from other sites, but be careful with offering too many links out without enough quality links coming in.
- Affiliate Program: offer other site owners a percentage of your sale for any sales generated through links from their site

Those are the quick ones that you can get started on. There's no magic formula that will totally ensure great results when you are on a tight budget, you'll have to be more creative, read alot of articles about the subject and do alot of the work yourself.

But, it is attainable. Just look up the 4 items listed above to gain a very clear understanding of what each can do for you (too long for me to put in one response).

Good luck!
