Theories : Internet Marketing Model

i am a student in a UK university and i would like to do my final year dissertation on Internet Advertising. i haven't narrowed it down to any specific field yet but would like to know if there are and Internet Marketing theories or models that e-marketers follow or have suggested following for successful online advertising. also would it be possible for you to give me some sources (which also give statistical information) which i could use for free to find out how effective internet advertising actually is when it comes to customer response.
