How Can A Freelance Writer Site Get Conversions?

Posted by Anonymous on 125 Points
My site, https://www.GeerCom.com, is currently at #1 in Google for the search phrase technology writer, yet I get few if any conversions. I am a full-time freelance writer, covering mostly technology of all kinds, and business, writing, and general topics on occasion.

I have gotten as many as 15,000 hits a month, 2,000-3,000 visits a month.

I want editors of print and online magazines who use Google to search for writers to find my site and instantly want to hire me for feature assignments. I do get feature assignments now, but mostly through direct contact. I want my site to do the work for me.

David - you choose who to accept or not when you close the question. Checking the box to accept now without closing it won't do anything. Just remember that you want to assign her points when it comes time to close it, and check the box for her then.

I see samples. I didn't see the list at the top at first, but did see a left column which seems to have some. I guess I often skip looking at the navigation bar when I first look at a site, so the samples option up top got missed by me.

So instead of the navigation bar, I look at the body. I found the body of the home page to be a little busy. I prefer a first page which gives the basics of who you are, what services you offer, and then links for more info, samples, etc. Total of 2 or 3 short paragraphs at most.

Getting people to look at the site and then 'buy' your service right away is a challenge. You may want to make the goal of the web site to be a direct contact, rather than a 'sale'. You can make the sale during that direct contact.
