Branding Of Cities

Posted by Anonymous on 125 Points
Hello all,

You guys helped me out greatly the last time I asked a question, so I'm back!!

I read an article this morning on Branding of Cities, that got me to thinking....My town just went through an amalgation with 2 outlining towns, and I'd like to approach my City about the Branding idea.

Does anyone have any advise on how to go about "Branding" a City?

and any advise on what I should say to the Mayor to get him interested in my Company performing this service for him??

Thank you.

I have visited your website and from the content I don't believe you have a credible story to tell on Re-Branding your city. Perhaps you are "hiding your light under a bushel" but the Mayor will probably check out the website like I did...

Where I think you do seem to have credibility is in managing projects. So why not approach the Mayor for a discussion about the whys and wherefores of Re-Branding (look at the valuable input above first) and make your offer around the project management of the Re-Branding exercise.

You could offer to create the project outline, identify the prospective service-providers, manage the timelines and budgets, and create a submission based on the efforts of the service providers you identify, for which you could be paid a retainer plus a percentage of the total project fees.

That way, if they decide not to proceed once you've put the "bid" together, you still get your retainer.

Knowing municipalities, I expect they will want to tender every major project component anyway, usually awarding the work to the lowest bidder. You would need to provide a competitive and tranparent process that matches their standards and requirements (because they are publicly accountable to the taxpayers).

    Hope this helps.

    Good Luck
