Advice Needed: Expanding Outbound Marketing To Uk

Posted by telemoxie on 500 Points
I've been a free lance telemarketing fellow for over ten years... and I'm overly busy with work in the US, and not interested in outsourcing overflow work. I'm looking to expand my activities to include making phone calls to the UK.

This way, I can start work quite early (e.g. 4 to 5 AM Eastern time) which allows me to finish earlier (e.g. fewer calls to California). And, I can probably charge more for this service... and work with larger clients... and it increases my chances of drinking in a British pub and writing it off as a business expense...

I'm thinking of focusing on the UK because I already speak a form of English, having only taken 2 years of high school French (although learning French would help me with calls to Europe, Africa, and Quebec...) . I have a bit of international experience from my days selling telecommunications equipment (probably a dozen or so trips outside the US, plus working with international folk from HQ, plus my time on this forum...)

My primary sources of information are the US Small Business Administration (which has lots of "how to" info on exporting) and other US Government export assistance sites - as well as the eCademy telemarketing group (which is based in the UK).

Any advice? Thanks in advance.

I had called a secuirty certificate company I assumed was based in the US. Turns out, they are based in the UK. I emtnion this because the VOIP line they use allows them to be based anywhere in the world, or at least create the illusion of it. They fooled me. I would have never known had the person on the phone not told me.

You could advertise your services in UK based publicatins and online service listings. Set yourself up with a VOIP line, using a UK based phone number. VOILA, you now appear to be UK based.

Sign up new clients, and get to work.

    Hope this helps you.

Darcy - good point, thanks. It would probably make sense to have a UK phone number - and also a UK based answering service... maybe even someone who can mail letters locally.

Everyone: any and all suggestions welcome. This is a new venture for me, and I'd like to be as prepared going into it as possible. Thanks in advance.
