Rewards For Referrals

I work for a marketing consulting firm and we need ideas of referrals rewards for clients. Our POC's are generally at the top of the company and we do not want to insult them. We know we would like to start calling current and past clients to let them know we want to expand and that since we did a great job for them and helped to put them ahead of the competitiion would they give us referrals. But what suggestions do you have about an incentive or reward for this. We believe they would be insulted with something minimal and yet we couldn't afford large item rewards because we are a small company! Help!

    I agree with Steve, if they liked you, a reminder of what you did for them and a way for them to help their friends should be sufficient.

    You might consider to highlight high referral sources in your newsletter/advertising to help their business even more.

    Steve and Jay make a lot of sense. Just work on your relationship and ask for referrals. After the fact you could give them a gift card for a good restaurant as a thank you, but not before. Better yet personalize you gift to fit what you know about your client.

    Is there a way for you to offer the referring client credits for services you provide for each new client they refer to you?

    If you have a recurring revenue relationship, then maybe a one-time credit to the referring client equal to the value of the first month's revenue from the new client. If it is project work, then credit toward some of the work you do for the referring client.

    The size of the credit, of course, would vary according to the revenue you bring in from the new client.

    I think you could earn positive ROI from such a program and it seems less awkward than a gift card or something else unrelated to what you do.
