Mailing Over E-mailing?

Posted by Anonymous on 250 Points
I'm wondering if anyone has seen a rise in direct mail
over e-mail due to the recent spam laws. Do you think marketing professionals will try direct mail again? Our executives are pushing the marketing team to begin hard copy mailings but the cost is prohibitive of doing much. Any advice? Thanks for your insight, Megan

I think that in spite of recent spam laws, email newsletters will survive. Yes, there are some new hurdles with spam filters etc., but with opt in emailing, you should not have too much trouble.

Like you said, hard copy mailing is not only cost prohibitive but has become "junk mail"...tossed away instantly. Some may argue the same about email marketing...but content is the key. You HAVE to make sure the people you are sending email to:

    1. Actually want your mail.

    2. Find something useful in it.

Otherwise, it gets thrown out... just like hardcopy junk mail.

The problem may not be in the spam laws, but rather your content and target demographic. Step back, take a look and make sure you are sending the right info to the right people.
