Updated Homepage Feedback- Cityu

Posted by Anonymous on 2000 Points
Hi all,

A month or two ago many of you gave me some great feedback on a university website. We have incorporated many of the suggestions gained from my last question (including dumping the flash component) and I think our homepage of is much improved, but I wanted to check in. The updated site went live this afternoon.

So... how are we doing based on our goals? Phase one of the website refresh is done. Looking at the home page https://www.cityu.edu

Home page refresh Goals:
• To better support and explain the "Be Citywise" marketing campaign
• To add some student faces that help potential students feel welcome.
• To create a clear path to more info for potential students.
• To increase leads and conversions

Thanks all, I value both thoughtful comments and first impressions. (you may need to refresh to see the updates)
Jo

The last discussion was at https://www.marketingprofs.com/ea/qst_question.asp?qstID=35954

You can see a basic screenshot of the previous site at https://www.markosweb.com/www/cityu.edu/ ( the flash does not show up)

Nice look. Seems like it would be attractive to a younger audience, but not turn off non-traditional students. I would ask some folks in the younger age bracket to test the site for you. Don't assume.

When I clicked on the Program and Location finder, selected something, then clicked, it changed the main window but did not close the Finder window. Unless I had noticed that the pattern had changed on the main window I would think it wasn't working. Also on that Finder window I tried to use more than one type of locator until I understood it was only meant to be used one at a time. Maybe I'm just old, but that didn't seem apparent.

I like the multiple ways to get to the information. I like the live chat feature (it was closed when I reviewed this).

I question that you don't have a Terms of Use, and you have a Privacy Policies that seems to try and combine the two.

I like that when you take people off the site you open a new window so they don't get lost.

The "Learn More" button has a broken image at the top. Make sure you get someone to go through and CLICK EVERY LINK on the website. Every link, every page.

There isn't a Featured Story under the Press Room.

Sorry, that's about all I have time for. Get some of your current students to test drive and try to break it and offer feedback.

The "Save The Date" image shows September, yet the "enroll today" refers to April. Can you change the graphic to reinforce "April"?

It took a couple of clicks until I figured out that the university has 27 locations worldwide. I had assumed that with the name "City University of Seattle" you were targeting people in the Seattle area (or the Northwest). Because of the range of locations, I'd strongly encourage you to integrate a message like: "We're Everywhere You Are" or "27 Locations Worldwide".

In your "Choose Location" popups (such as https://www.cityu.edu/about/services/course_schedule.aspx), group locations alphabetically by country - it'll reinforce your worldwide message.

Lastly - if your university known for a field of study (art, engineering, business) - highlight that distinction.
