New To B2b Social Media - Help Please!

Posted by Anonymous on 125 Points
Hi Folks,

We are a medium sized company and I would like to develop a social media strategy for our company. I suppose we are interested in the use of Facebook, Twitter. LinkedIn in a B2B context.

I am familiar with the above social media sites from an individual users perspectives and tbh i am a little dubious regarding their use in a B2B context.

Would anybody be able to suggest or provide me with some interesting and useful articles regarding the advantages of these sites in a B2B context and a "How To" guide wouldn't go a miss either!!!!

Many thanks in advance for your time and help,

PG

    Hi PG,

    I've had some success with LinkedIn and Twitter.

    LinkedIn has been a great resource for us. I've developed groups that focus on specific topics, rather than my company, and have been able to position certain individuals within the company as a thought leaders in the industry. I've also used polls, direct ads and the company profile product and service pages on LinkedIn to further promote thought leadership and brand awareness.

    We also tweet about events, press releases and relevant industry news. Our followers include the media that we want to reach.

    I have seen an increase in web traffic from both of these sources, as well as, increases in website downloads.

    Hope this helps!

    Depending on your product/service you might benefit more from Contextual ads on search engines and social media sites like Linkedin. Of course, you should have a company profile on Linkedin and maybe on Facebook, depending on product or services.

    You might want to look at these case studies to see how it worked for specific companies.

    Hi,
    sorry but you are heading for a car crash.
    Its not the vehicle but the audience & message that are important.

    Many "jump on the SM bandwagon" without really knowing what it is they want to achieve.

    So first of all:
    * who are your audience?
    * where do they "hang out" in social media terms
    * are your clients local, national or international (if the first almost forget SM with the exception of google & twitter)
    * what sites/ platforms etc?
    -What EVIDENCE do you have for this?
    * What key words are THEY interested in?
    * How often do they participate in these environments/events?

    Paid for ads in this environment are NOT social media - it is just traditional advertising, just on a different billboard

    Facebook is ok for b-2-c (but be careful for b-2-b - but things are changing)
    Linkedin can be good for B-2-B
    Twitter can be powerful

    but what about groups, forums etc?

    starting from scratch can be difficult - are you better positioned to surf someone Else's wave?

    I would say be VERY careful of reading article on this written from a providers basis - they can sell snow to the north pole, look for real stories of firms that have succeeded.
    look at the results people have - there is no point trusting a person on twitter for twitter advice if they only have 2-8000 followers for example, nor a firm that does not have a linkedin profile or run several groups.

    In this business recency (current experience) is everything, esp as the space is constantly shifting.

    Start with a clear goal, know where your audience is - and then take small steps with a 2-3 year plan and do not expect quick results

    good luck
    Mike
