Maximizing The Role Of Field/regional Marketing

Does anyone have best practices to share about the relationship between "home office marketing" and "field marketing?"

In many companies, "home office," creates much of the marketing strategy and "field marketing," is where it can either sink or swim. There is often some disconnect between the home office and field.

As a field marketer, I find myself spending more time on sales strategy than marketing. Is this by default or by design?

I am relearning how to make a difference, where marketing fits and how I can efficiently provide home office with the customer by customer, region-specific market intelligence that allows them to better develop products, strategies, communication that makes a difference.

Insight as well as direction to research or best practices is much appreciated.
