    Well you won't know unless you try, or they could update the article saying that you were responsive to the problem and offered to fix it.

    Is the information true or not? If it's true, then you need to develop a "deeper" positive answer to the real problem (showing why the problem has since been resolved - ideally with the person(s) affected detailing the resolution). If it's not, then you likewise need to state why it's false.

    The easiest, least costly approach is to contact the sites with the negative content and see if you can add to the conversation by indicating the solution that you provided to solve the issue.

    My next step would be to begin to get other pages on other sites on the first page of the SERPs to rank above the negative content, pushing them off the first page.
