Thoughts On Google Places For Business Changes

Posted by lkirkland on 125 Points
I got an email from Google this morning about changes they have made to Google Places for Business. Just wondering if anyone has any opinions on it yet? I'm about to dig in and see how our 5 locations have been affected.

I've not looked yet but Google Places for Business bass been and will probably remain an important online presence for most businesses that serve a localized area, particularly gyms, restaurants, bars, pizza places, and service orientated businesses.

Most small business owners make less than stellar use of GPFB, which is a shame because it can be a powerful ally (more so when it's leveraged against and with other—mostly free—online tools and platforms that few people see as worthwhile). Again, the real power of GPFB lies in its management and in the way it's used with other listings-style platforms.

I've been using GPFB for one of my clients who has 3 retail locations. Overall very good/effective, but frustrating to manage. The new changes sound good, but I've been disappointed before. I suspect Google gives a lot more attention to Adwords than to the non-revenue-generating GPFB.

I have not spent any time on this recently, so I can't comment specifically on the latest changes.
