Functions Of Product Marketing Manager

Posted by phsiao1214 on 250 Points
What are the job functions of the Product Marketing Manager in a company that is the geographic Exclusive Distributor of a brand (also the manufacturer)?

I understand for Product Marketing Managers in a manufacturing company, they work closely with Product Manager (PM) to bring the product to its target market in languages most compelling to consumers.

For a *separate* company that exists solely as an geographic exclusive distributor of a brand (eg. US exclusive distributor), they would also have their own marketing team that markets the products to its market (the US).

Would the PMM functions in a exclusive distributor role be different from that of its counterpart in the manufacturer then? Or would the two work closely together to set a global message for the product?

Does anybody have experience in a marketing role for a company that's an exclusive distributor of a brand?

Thanks!

Titles are not fixed, and what people do for each title varies by company. I have seen a set of basically the same duties called Marketing Manager, Product Manager, and Product Marketing Manager at different companies.

The general view I have seen is that PMM are the outward looking folks - taking products and figuring out how to market them. PMs are inward facing - figuring out how to develop, make, and deliver the products.

If the company in question here follows this pattern - the way it would work is that the PMs would be back at the manufacturer, and the PMM would be the marketing folks at the exclusive distributor. The PMM would be focuses on how to take the manufacturer's products and market them.
