Tagging Keywords To Our Blog

Posted by Anonymous on 400 Points
I work for a pharmaceutical and we have a blog which gives news and opinions on what is happening within our industry.

I wanted to hyperlink some keywords from our blog to relevant pages on our site to drive traffic to those pages and hopefully get some of the keywords highlighted as part of our SEO strategy. At a recent event, I heard the Google penalise companies who do this.

Can anyone shed any light on this?

    And this:

Note the section on unnatural links, which may address the point you raised above about Google.

My suggestion: Don't try to game the Google system. They have seen it all, and they've gotten really good at detecting link strategies like the one you describe.

If your blog is on the main company domain, a few links that are really helpful to site visitors probably won't be questioned. But if they start showing up in almost every paragraph of every blog post, the Google bots will spot them very quickly and punish you.

As a general guideline, if it's really helpful to site visitors then Google's likely to be OK with it. If it looks like you're trying to "fool" Google they'll punish you quickly.
