Reaching Teens With Marketing

Posted by mypersonalcollegecoach on 250 Points
I need a creative leave behind for teens. As a College Coach, I help teens through the college admissions process. I'm speaking to a large group and want to give them a leave behind to help them remember how to contact me. Reaching teens is very different than adults. Brochures are boring to them. Also considering a way for them to text a message to me and receive something in exchange...maybe a digital planner or webinar etc..... I'm new to this ball game and would really value your suggestions.

I'd try to collect email addresses and follow-up with an outbound call-to-action. Perhaps a simple pre-printed 3.5 x 5 card with space for name, email address, graduation year would be sufficient. Ask each person to fill it out and return to you. Then develop a great outbound follow-up email message, perhaps offering a PDF download with useful information or a checklist to engage the audience.

Remembering how to contact you begins with a strong reason to do so. From their perspective, why should they think of using you? Or, are you really trying to engage their parents to hire your services? Once you've figured out who your customer is (who's paying your fee) and your unique offering, then you can begin to determine the best way to reach them.

You are all brilliant! Thank You so much for your helpful responses. Yes, I do want to gain business, but the driving motivation is to help the teens through a sometimes overwhelming process. I appreciate all the talent you have shared with me!

I'd think about stickers (they're cheap!), with a catchy, offbeat, maybe slightly abstract slogan or catchphrase… some eye-catching graphics… and a twitter handle. Then get your social media strategy sorted… (It doesn't have to be a twitter handle linked to a twitter account; could be Facebook / Instagram or whatever gels with you and your target market. But do it properly). And a note of caution… don't try too hard to be "cool" or "trendy".

Great Responses....Keep them coming! I agree, there is a fine line between being age appropriate and not trying to hard to be cool and trendy!

Any great resources for designing a new logo that is trendy? My website it www.mypersonalcollegecoach.com it needs a new/ fresh/ look. Issue is trying to appeal to both the parents and the teens.

Bit of a quick crit on your website, hope you find it useful rather than negative.

The plus… Lots of GREAT content on your website… that's what a lot of people struggle with.
You've got all the information up there, and it is presented in a professional fashion. Love the blog.

In my humble opinion, it just A) Needs to be organised differently (Lose the "Home" page, lead with some of the "Why Choose a College Coach" material right up on the front page. And lose the guy who's standing on the runway… he looks like he's going to get mown down by that 'plane.

    B) It just needs a bit more "sizzle" A fresher colour palette… a bolder hand with the typography… in other words a professional designers touch. The trick is to funk it up a bit without alienating the parent side of your audience.

There's not a lot wrong with your logo btw, it just needs a tweak… lose the group shadow, make it smaller, and move it up to the header bar on every page.

Hope this helps, and remember, it's just my opinion, though a considered one.

    chough,

Thank You so so so much! I appreciate your feedback more than you know. My business is growing like crazy and I'm bringing on new employees. Up until now, I have been a 1 person show and don't have anyone to give me the honest feedback I need to help me grow. I can't thank you enough for taking the time to look at the site and give me your opinion. I value it greatly! If you have anymore thoughts, please don't be shy about sending them my way! You are correct when you mention it being a fine line between appealing to teens and parents both!
