Technology Marketing Budgets For Fy05
Posted By: Robert Huntley* on 7/9/2004 10:48 AM (CST) 50 Points
Has anybody got a view on overall market confidence in the technology sector and the likely impact, up or down, moving towards FY05?

Definetly moving up. Apart from the general upturn in the world trade outlook, the IT sector is due to enter its natural buying cycle as new technologies make the kit that is installed out there relatively expensive to maintain rather than replace. Also there are a number of applications that will begin to move into the mainstream and generate at least pilots (RFID, web services, 3G mobile, Microsoft.NET, network security/virus, physical security/biometrics, GRID computing, etc.).

You aren't DwangoBob, are you? No matter...

I recall reading that technology spending is rising three times faster in the small-to-medium business sectors than in the F500 realm. I'll have to dig through my "quotables" file to find the source, though.

Is there a specific slice of the tech sector you're interested in?

The article I might have been thinking about is here:

http://www.informationweek.com/story/showArticle.jhtml?articleID=13100930

It describes market research from IDC, Forrester, and Meta Group. An excerpt:

"Most analysts estimate the IT market for small and midsize companies--which generally includes companies ranging from $50 million to $500 million in annual revenue--to be more than $300 billion. These companies will account for 54% of total IT spending this year, according to market researcher IDC. And their spending is growing fast: Their IT budgets are expected to increase 17% versus 1.3% for large companies, according to Forrester Research. "

Bob, this may sound strange, BUT...

If you're looking for a longshot investment, there's a recent forum post here:

Of course, it's not as good a deal as BirdNest. ;]
