    Hi John,

    Without question I would choose:

    1) Website design focusing on search engine optimization
    2) Search engine marketing i.e. pay-per-click.

Those are the high-demand areas right now. 12 months from now it might be something different like RSS/XML, so I would stay real flexible and not get overly immersed i.e. put all your eggs in one basket.

    I hope that helps!

Website design that's focused on usability and revenue-generating results.

But then, that's just one geek's opinion...

I'm with Randall: Strategic planning and market development.

These areas are probably the most under-represented and yet the most important to success. It's incredible how many people are out there optimizing sites, developing clever capture routines, and analyzing click-through rates ... all without a clue of what the strategic objectives are (or ought to be), who the target market is, what's important to them, etc.

I guess that's a small measure of job security for those of us who are strategic planners and marketers, but there's plenty of room for more in this niche.

D4D and Shelley--I'm with you. Internet marketers should get sales commissions instead of salaries.

I’m with Tim Pepper on this one with RSS/XML—it’s a little early for adoption, but it’s not to early to learn, think and plan.
