Name Needed For Clothing Brand
Posted By: Professor Peabody on 5/30/2005 7:49 PM (CST) 250 Points
Hi guys, In the process of starting up a new venture selling clothing, trainers, bags etc. We are positioning ourselves at the higer price end of the market. Our items are aimed at the young fashionable girl/boy. most of our items are one offs ao wont be seen anywhere else.

we need a name for the clothing line. something catchy but not cheesy, creates a sense of exclusivity, was thinking maybe something japanese??? any help would be appreciated.

THANKS

If you are looking for a Japanese name. May I suggest that you give us english words that you would like to see as to how they sound in Japanese. This will help you get a name faster.

Gidday ProfP

I'd stick with a simple English version. Call the range 'OneWon'

I can even hear the advertising music track tapping into the emergent revival of late 50's early 60's remixes for the new millenial set and the 'Ya do want onewon ya do onewon' soundtrack coming through'

Hi,

It just occurred to me the brand could also ring somewhat Greek bells like for instance "Ephebus" suggesting youth and beauty.

"CHOZEN" is a name that is spelt with asian "Japanese" connotation but also means exclusivity in its common sound.

"Think about it" or "I Am" would be the tagline- both would stir questioning and create the illusion of cool, hip and sheek.

Best,

Henri

hi guys, yeh some good ideas here. The brand is mainly going to be sold in england, i just like the sound of some japense, greek words etc for some reason.

i like that idea henri definate a consideration. if anyone can translate effectively then the brands image is focusing around, exclusivity, one off designs, cool clothes aimed at the younger generation.

please keep the ideas coming.

thanks

How about:

"Kaizen"

"Ichiban"

"Sigma Ichiban"

or a mixture of Spanish and Japanese:

"Uno Ichiban"

If your going with the whole Japanese name thing, a quick look online at some English-to-Japanese translators produces the following:

exclusive - haitateki, senzoku
one - ichi, ikko, hitotsu, wan, issun
off - ofu
cool - ikasu, heizen, rei
young - wakai, yangu

Personally, I like the following ideas:
Wan and Rei are short, easy to say, and evocative of English phrases.

I always liked the named Mitsumi.

The Flaming Lips put out an album called, "Yoshimi Battles the Pink Robots." Name the line Yoshimi and see if you can't leverage some of the Flaming Lips indie cred.
