Pay Per Click... A Question...

Posted by Anonymous on 125 Points
Hello there!

I've asked a few questions in the past on this board and have always found the members to be a valuable resource of information. Lately, more and more of my marketing has been moving online as opposed to print, and traditional media.

With that said, I am jumping back in to pay per click as a marketing vehicle. Now I am going to be running a relatively small campaign (My spending limit between Overture and Adwords will be $100-150 per day)

With that said, I would still like to get the most out of this investment, and after reviewing many of the forums, message boards, and book/ training reviews, it seems that everyone has their own opinion. I realize there will be more than one successful approach. So my question is, has anyone found a good training system, book or course on this subject?

I've heard some stories about little insider tricks to beat the bidding process down and stay ahead of the competition etc, but who knows how much of that is truth vs. marketing hype. In fact, here is a link to a training course I have been seriously considering run by Marketing Experiments. (https://www.marketingexperiments.com/secure/offer.php?id=59) Anyone familiar with this company? Good/bad/run away? lol I found this link through Marketing Sherpa, and I'm curious what others have to say, and hopefuly would like to hear some feedback.

Or perhaps there is an alternative, or even better course out there? Thanks again for reading my long winded post. :)

My advice would be to become a Premium Plus member of MarketingProfs (yes, THIS SITE) and play all the virtual seminar recordings regarding search marketing, especially the ones featuring Stephan Spencer. He's the big thinker at netconcepts.com who frequently writes content for MProfs, too.

I'm now part of the MProfs team myself, and I run Mission Control for all the virtual seminars. Shameless promotion? Maybe. But all of this content is the best thing on the web for $199/year, our Premium Plus members keep telling me. Try it!! ;]

Shelly (SRyan) is telling the truth, the seminar's are VERY GOOD and well worth the price of admission.

That's great. I did check out the list of topics, and there seem to be quite a few. However, this does lead me to my next question. Do these seminars give actual marketing techniques, such as: How to drive down the cost of the campaign through fluctuating bids, and how to track, test and outsmart your competitors?

I ask this, because most srticles and training I pay for ends up giving me nothing but vague common sense advice that you can find anywhere. I'm looking for actual techniques and marketing tactics. Is that what these seminars provide? If so, then I'm in! This is what I've been looking for, but having a hard time finding. Thanks again for the responses! :)

    Hi Viperblq,

I understand your question, that is, that you are looking for actual techniques and marketing tactics.

There is no one program, book, website, webinar that will provide this, and I have seen them all. You just have to keep reading those blogs and watching those webinars and reading those books and synthesize this information and then most importantly use this knowledge as you continue to develop your own skills and methodologies with your PPC account.

That is because as simple as PPC might seem, it is very complex and dynamic and each account is truly unique so the best way to learn is to start experimenting with your own account and use not only the AdWords reporting features but Google Analytics and try to get on the Google Website Optimizer beta list as Landing Pages are really where the conversion action begins.

It is a cumulation of using all of these tools and most importantly your own diligence in creating your own PPC experiments and measuring the results and changes that you get with your own PPC that will get you to the level you want to be at.

Now, about the Marketing Experiments course, I am familiar with it, it is brand new (not Marketing Experiments, just this course), I do not believe they have ever offered this one before so there is no precedent to base it on. I do know it starts this week and it sure looks like they are going to present exactly what you are looking for and Marketing Experiments is very respected.
