Certifying Can-spam Compliance By List Providers

Posted by Anonymous on 250 Points
We're wondering what we should do to ensure that the email lists that we rent are in compliance with CAN SPAM. I am curious to learn if anyone uses a checklist, requires a signed compliance letter/affidavit or agreement?

Is there a standard certification that providers are using?

Check out this info at Opt-in News, good stuff to put into practice:

Like the author says: "Email spam" is in the eye of the reader - one person's valued information may be another person's spam.

I know in the UK you can add a "SPAM clause" to rental cotracts (by righst list providers should be able to verify the opt-in registrations before you send!).

You can set up a clause where you get a penalty payment per genuine complaint, I would additionally add a clause stipulating if you see x number of 'harvested' emails, you do not pay for the list rental.
