Principal Consultant could be appropriate (note the spelling!). The question is whether it is better or not to hide that he/she is the owner. Personally I have always chosen to 'Director" on my card rather than the more accurate "Managing Director". If he/she is actually going to be consulting for clients then I'd actually have two cards - one with Principal Consultant and one with President or CEO.

It depends upon whether you want to emphasize your role as a consultant or your role as the owner (meaning you are the go-to person for management and operations issues). I would not use Principal Consultant if you are the only employee, although I think simply Consultant would be OK. If you have other employees in your business, then either is OK, according to how you wish to present yourself.

I respectfully disagree with Tim. I think 2 cards would be confusing; however, I would not object to "President and Principal Consultant" (again, assuming you have multiple employees).
