Finding The Perfect Name For Volunteer Start Up

Posted by Shirin on 500 Points
Hi,

We need some expert advice on how to find the perfect/catchy name for this new startup.

Background:
We are building a website for a client that is looking to connect local volunteers with organizations that need help.

There are two side to this:
1) Users/Volunteers will be able to find various volunteer opportunities posted on the site near where they live and sign up for them online.

2) Organizations will be able to post their needs and find local volunteers.

Scalability:
We will be starting this on a local basis, but eventually we are hoping to expand to various regions/cities/.

Target market:
Adults, Ages 25-45, Typically single, affluent, educated.
There is a social component to this. Ie, you are doing good/giving back to community, but it is also an opportunity to meet other single people/volunteers.
We dont want that to be the main focus but want to hint at it in a subtle way.

Similar to "Team in Training" or "Events & Adventures"

Since this will be regional, we would ideally like to have the name of the region as part of the name. But we are open to ideas.

So for example:
Volunteers of San Diego
Good Samaratins of New Jersey.
"Catchy Name" of " location"

We are really struggling to finding a name that is fun/catchy. It would need to imply "volunteer" like
Good Samaritan, Do-Gooder, Philanthropist, Humanitarian

But none of these are catchy & fun.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Thank you in advance!

Shirin

    Don't go with cliché names like do-gooders or good samaritan. As someone who's served in a volunteer position most my adult life (to give back to the society that gives me my standard of living-- its a core value of mine) I find that patronizing.

    I think you need to do some research on why people give their time.

    How about San Diego Proud

    It sounds like your client will be creating something like www.volunteermatch.org or www.volunteerconnection.net

    Some ideas:
    * We Volunteer
    * People-Powered Communities
    * The Give-Back Match
    * We ♥ Volunteering

    or something like a play on Linkedin

    VolunteerInSanDiego...
