Listserv-benefits & Opportunities?

What are the pros & cons to a company joining a customer-market listserv? What are your recommended best practices? Our customer-market in which this listserv addresses, is strategically new for our company. And the listserv is new as well.

    Ironically, this forum is a type of listserv in which I found to be profoundly beneficial in the growth of my company and my personal knowledge.
