Posted by Anonymous on 250 Points
Respected team members,
My situation is that:-

I want to start career in marketing in canada & I will do Pg diploma in marketing & then enter into workforce.

So my queries and problem are as follows:
1) As I am international student,Iam making a huge investment as compared to domestic student, so at initial level I want a static & stable job which is good for earning wise as well as important learnings that will open door for other good companies, So do consider my skills and limitations before giving your valuable views towards the best initial job that you suggest

Skills:1)Good communicator,Team minded,Much brand conscious,logical oriented and logical person,Basic Ms office skills.

Limitations: 1) I dont want to travel more in such a distant country like Canada(because of extensive travelling cost will increase & cant balance living & earning.
2) I am planning to do pg diploma in ontario in canada
3)Iwill not have any contacts in the initial stage.
4)My background is completely non technical.(basically a commerce graduate)
5)I love to be part of Fmcg, retail,pr industry, consultancy(related to my field in marketing)

So please give a thought on all this parameters.

It doesn't matter how much education you have - you will have to start working at the bottom in an Assistant or Coordinator role to learn the ropes. Unless you have a wealthy Uncle who can get you a sweet a$$ job as a Director with zero experience – you are limited to what you can bring to the table which at this point is a lot of theoretical knowledge with no experience.

I would work with your University's employment center to see what help they can provide in connecting you with prospective employers.

One thing to keep in mind - the info you posted had much more info on your limitations than on what you can offer the prospective company. When talking with companies or when networking, make sure you down play the limitations, and instead talk about what skills and experience you have (even if it is not much) and how that could help the prospective company.
