What W/make Pressegg.com A Better Marketing Tool?

Posted by Anonymous on 375 Points
I recently launched a new marketing / pr site called PressEgg.com. It is a free, simple online platform for posting news and info about your company or organization. Ideally it is meant as an additional marketing resource for businesses / organizations that do not maintain their own news site. You simply create a post: news, press releases, articles, etc... and we then syndicate that post across the PressEgg network. Users can also take their post and share it on their facebook, twitter, digg accounts, etc. Each company is tagged - so they will have a permanent home where all their posts are grouped together - so they actually have their own "news" page on PressEgg.com.

The site is pretty new - but I am having a hard time getting the concept across to people and getting people to post. After I walk people through it - they really get it and love how it works. Does anyone have any suggestions for how to market this - do you see a different audience that I may be missing? Thanks for your help!

If you have some news, an article, etc... to share - please create a post! We hare having a special iPad giveaway at the moment to promote the site!

One of the best exposure tools I've seen for new PR tools besides generating industry buzz is to buy advertising space on a HARO query newsletter. People tend to flock to the services that advertise, then provide incentive to those from the HARO community.

The obvious is to get the information in the hands of as many PR practitioners and small businesses as you can. Once they're sold and talk about its great features, others will be, too.

Site is very easy to use, no question. I see three problems:
    1. Competition, some of it very well-established and high-ranking in traffic and PageRank. These are from the "related links" on Alexa for pr.com (which I found from a google ad on your site):

    pr.com
    PRWeb
    PR Leap
    PressBox
Free Press Release Distribution Center - I-Newswire.com
    ClickPress
    Press Release Distribution
    Free Press Release Distribution
PRFree.com Free Press Release Distribution and Writing Service
PressReleasePoint | Free Press Release Distribution Website | Submit Press Release
    PR-USA.net

    2. Name. Note that almost all of the names above are self-explanatory. What does Press Egg mean? It's hard to launch services with made-up names. Just because Apple, Google, Yahoo did it, doesn't mean it's easy.

    3. No keyword metatag. You'll need a lot more SEO and maybe SEM, especially if you're going to allow your competitors's ads on your site!

I like this site. The need to release free press releases for backlinking purposes is critical in the age of internet marketing. However, I don't see a way that a company can backlink in the release. There is an option in the form for a url, but didn't see it populate in the actual release. That would be the critical feature that could help you market to SEO agencies as the ultimate backlinking building tool.

From Levon: I don't see a way that a company can backlink in the release...

I create a More Info: section in your post and will post any website links, emails, etc that you want included in your post.

The biggest problem I'm having is that I can't find the WIIFM. WHY would I want to post on PressEgg.com? What will it do for me? Who will see it? Why is it better than posting on my own site/blog?

Without a clear and obvious benefit, the whole concept falls flat. You need to be very explicit about the positioning benefit.

Without that we're wasting time trying to improve the offering.

I understand that many people maintain their own blogs / news pages on their websites... but the majority of small businesses I work with do not.. that is where we come in. PressEgg gives these companies the opportunity to have a news room without having to maintain their own site to support it. PressEgg gives these people an opportunity to share their story and get their name out there!

Why should I post on PressEgg.com?
By posting on PressEgg.com you create a dynamic weblog of all of your posts, creating rich, searchable text and links that will promote your company or organization on the web. By posting on PressEgg.com your info is not only stored and accessible on this site, we also syndicate your post to numerous search engines, blog servers, social media sites and RSS feeds (See: The PressEgg Network). PressEgg is an excellent and efficient way to market your company to consumers and other business professionals both locally and worldwide! Don't forget to share your post on your own social networking accounts, like Facebook and Twitter.

Matt, I'm afraid I wasn't very clear in my last post. I wasn't asking about WIIFM because I couldn't figure it out. I was posing a rhetorical question to suggest that you need to make the benefit clear to the small business owners in your target audience.

You write: "PressEgg gives these companies the opportunity to have a news room without having to maintain their own site to support it."

Isn't it possible that these small business owners don't have a news room because they don't think they need one? They might not understand why a news room is a good thing.

And your website doesn't make the connection between having a press room (or using PressEgg.com) and selling more stuff/making more money -- which is presumably what they want.

That's what I mean by telling them what's in it for them. Simply telling them that this is an easier way to have a press room is like telling them it's another thing to do that doesn't really improve their business. I think you need to be very clear/explicit about the benefit ... not just of PressEgg.com, but of having a press room.

And remember that someone still has to write the content. In many cases that could be the thing that's too difficult for the small business owner. Does PressEgg.com solve that problem? Or does it just remind them that the whole task of publicity is more than they want to tackle.

Sorry I wasn't clear before. My brain was working faster than my fingers.

Market it based on success stories. As a prospective poster, I want to hear about the small boutique that posted something and suddenly their phone wouldn't stop ringing and the local newspaper did a write-up on them. Or, because of the posting, web traffic increased 200% for the next month. That sort of ROE (return on effort) will make it obvious what's in it for the poster.

Thanks everyone for your help and suggestions... I will certainly take them all into consideration as we change and grow PressEgg.com. We are starting to get posts from around the world... and those posts are producing noticeable buzz and increasing search engine results for these companies! So we are on the right track!

If you haven't created a post yet - head on to over: PressEgg.com - Thanks again!
