Hosting Site/domain Name

Posted by vivicubilla on 25 Points
Hi, I need to reserve a domain name, just wondering which are some of the best hosting sites out there? I am starting a small granola business. Also, should I buy other domains with my same url ending in .net, .us, etc? Thank you!

I've been quite satisfied with 1and1.com for hosting. And I don't see any compelling need to buy a bunch of domains for defensive reasons. If you are so successful that someone tries to impersonate you online, that will be a great problem to have. And there are more ways to copycat than you can possibly defend against.

Again, just my opinion. Focus on the big idea; don't get bogged down in the minutia.

I also use 1and1. And also don't buy the other domain endings as defensive.

I do buy similar names. For example, I ran a sports magazine for a while. I had both the name with 'mag' and also the longer 'magazine'.

The bigger focus on domain names is to make it short and easy, and to purchase those domains that consumers may mistype.

Example: American Airlines owns aa.com, American.com and americanairlines.com.

Don't use extra characters if you don't have to: American-airlines.com. The hyphen just adds more unnecessarily.

Don't worry about .net or .org unless you are more aligned with non-profit/community service. If you are a business, then .com is automatically assumed.
