Crib Sheets For Marketing Students

Posted by Anonymous on 250 Points
There seem to be a lot of marketing students looking for short cuts, and quick answers on the KHE.

If a student is looking for assistance on a set question, surely they should post the question and their own response, asking for feedback on their own work, rather than posting the question right out of the textbook?

Maybe these questions should be marked as ‘student asks’, so that the tone and complexity of the response can be adjusted accordingly?

Personally, I would gladly give input to mould an answer, but have problems being plagiarised verbatim.

Thoughts anyone?

I agree Michele. One of the primary goals of any student in any discipline, undergrad or graduate, is to develop the skills that allow one to think more clearly and strategically and make more effective decisions. If we as KHE's are proving complete, albeit concise answers, this is not a productive way to encourage the development of these skills. Certainly their loss, but no need for us to support it as these are people we will be employing and working with in the future.

I like the word you used - "mould". I support this however I don't know how this could be implemented into the existing KHE?

I think everyone knows how I feel about it. If not, see question #424.

If a student asks for feedback on their own answer, I will be glad to help point them in the right direction, much like a professor or tutor would do, but I would not do the work for them by giving a detailed answer that could be used verbatim.

Otherwise, I'm not going to make them feel welcome here. This is not only to deter them, but to keep them from sending more losers into the forum.

Some of you answer these questions. Perhaps without much thought or observation as to how these questions are worded. For those of you who answer "accidentally"...well, it happens...I am guilty as well.

For those of you who answer anyway.....I'd like to know why? For the points? Because it reminds you of college and much you loved doing homework? What is the motivation to help someone cheat other than points?

Perhaps an quick question on the registration form "Are you a student?". Clicking yes would trigger the system to put a symbol by their name or maybe "Student " In the upper right corner...similar to "Moderator", "Staff Response", etc.

I have read the comments above and I agree with most of them. I'll graduate this may, and I think that some students have great potentials and great creativity. SO it would not be a good idea to just don't asnwer but as Jett said, be like a tutor and not give specific answers to them.

And by the way, if any student is reading this, you should not feel bad about asking questions, but you have to take into consideration that this forum, is not to do your homework, but it is to create an enviroment in which you can read other people's comments, decide wether you agree or disagree with them, and in that way learn, and create a good background that will help you in your future job.

Student section idea I like, but as previously posted there are many resources that they could and should go to before here MarketingProf articles are an excellent resource, and often my first port of call when I have a question!

I don't think students questions should go directly in the front page. Sometimes they are some pretty simple questions that with small research they can be answered. So, I would consider to give preferences to questions that are related to businesses that probably need more urgently the answers.

For instance, today I saw like two or three question on the front page, and they belonged to the sudent's section.

So this forum in certain way could lose focus. It's not to do homework for students but mainly to interchange comments about certain marketing problems (issues).

I have a scholarship, and I have to do work-study hours at my university. So what I do is tutoring students from the same institution in different areas, and I know that many students just want to get everything handed on their hands. I just want to clarify that I'm not talking in general. But it would be a good idea if many of the professionals that post in this website provided guides on not answers to students.

Personally, I believe many students will understand that this is for their good, and this will benefit them in the future.

    Thanks.
