Blog That Aggregates Content - Rankings

Posted by zschleien on 25 Points
I started a blog that aggregates content on a particular industry. The majority of the content is reposted content. I always give credit to the source. Is there anything I can so it does not negatively impact my Google’s page ranking? I’ve heard of a few tricks like canonical but unsure.

Add value to the aggregation. Otherwise, it's simply duplicated content that adds little value for visitors (assuming you're doing this work for an eventual financial payout).

No the point of the site is to aggregate content on a particular industry. We also have some original content. I understand it won't rank well. I just want to know the best practices.

Consider adding curated content that connects to your main subject. Write original headlines and 400 word introductions or overviews and then link to the original article or story. In your overviews, add industry-related opinion, soundbites, and statistics that complement the story you're linking to.

You might also want to include industry-related video and audio. If you create your own AV material, iTunes and YouTube then become stand alone distribution channels for you.
