Questions For My Online Class

Posted by fatimaka on 250 Points
Hi,

my name is Fatima and I have been taking this online class called 'The American Dream for the Next Generation'. This week we had to take a Interest Profiler to figure out which job would suit us best, and one of the jobs that would suit me best is Marketing Manager. To finish my assignment for this week I need to ask people who work in Marketing about their opinion. So I am kindly asking if some of you could answer me the following 3 questions:

1. What do you like and dislike about your job?
2. How are you treated by your organization?
3. Do you have recommendations for someone who is considering this line of work?

Thank you for your help!

    1. What do you like and dislike about your job?
Liked how I controlled things for a product or market. Disliked the office politics.

    2. How are you treated by your organization?
    Varies by company.

    3. Do you have recommendations for someone who is considering this line of work?
Marketing management is not something that someone just jumps in to. When we hired, we looked for experience in marketing (knowing how to market), experience with the products or markets the person would be working with (knowing the products and customers), and a bachelor degree (usually marketing, but could be appropriate engineering area if the products are tech based).

    1. What do you like and dislike about your job?

I like the wide variety of tasks and customer needs that I deal with. I don't like the artificial deadlines that can stifle creativity at times.

    2. How are you treated by your organization?

With the utmost respect ... as an expert in my field and as a team leader.

    3. Do you have recommendations for someone who is considering this line of work?

Really dig into the technical side of the business ... analytics, market research, etc. It's amazing how many people consider themselves marketers without a good technical grounding.

    1. What do you like and dislike about your job?

LIKE: Being creative and helping business owners drive sales.

DISLIKE: Pomp. Hype. BS. Marketing that lacks any kind of value or benefit.
Gurus selling "how to make money online" courses, and social media "experts"
who have fewer than 500 followers on Twitter.

    2. How are you treated by your organization?

At the moment, I'm between full time roles so I'm not at liberty to comment.

    3. Do you have recommendations for someone who is considering this line of work?

Build credibility online and offline by helping people.

    Lead with value.

    Be authentic.

Avoid any kind of "fake it tip you make it" nonsense.

    Be nice to people.

Tell the truth—even if the listener doesn't want to hear it.

Meet people's needs. Exceed their expectations.

    Follow your gut.
