Some interesting thoughts on bottle shapes here:

Mostly bottle shapes are designed for functional reasons. Some do use novelty factor in designs to get some additional sales, but I think it would be hard to calculate the value of this. And keep in mind a unique bottle design/shape also would come at a higher price than using a standard bottle, so while you may get additional sales, you may not offset the additional costs.

Have you addressed the basic question of why is it more preferable that you use a bottle as against other containers? I can buy fortified wines in 2 litre casks, and there is no reason why such casks could not be used for other spirituous liquids. Moreover, a cask gives you a much bigger surface area for posting promotional messages.

Just a thought for you to consider.

Ask everyone you know. Then discuss it a little with them. You'll probably get some interesting insights to jump-start your research. Remember, you want to hear what they have to say...you don't want to tell them what you think.
