How To Market A Development/design Agency?

Posted by Anonymous on 125 Points
Hi everyone, I'm just wondering if any of you have ideas for marketing an agency? The agency I work for develops websites for e-commerce brands, we have many big-name clients. We often solve complex issues.

So far our marketing has consisted of word of mouth and networking, and we have an excellent reputation in the industry. However, we want to take things further and be more active with marketing.

Any ideas?

Start by defining your primary target audience very precisely. Then talk with a few of them (10-12 is a good number for starters) to find out what they need/want, how they make decisions, etc. Then craft your benefit-oriented positioning statement and a creative brief for your marketing materials. Be sure you know what success would look like for your company.

Treat your company as though it is one of your best clients. Why should they hire you?

Unless your successful clients want to remain anonymous, find out what was said in the "word of mouth and networking", attribute those words to the successful individuals or firms, and go to market led by your record of successes. People want to go with a proven winner... nothing succeeds like success.
Of course you'll have to backfill that with some regular benefit-oriented materials but that's just to give them some logical justification for their decision.
