How Do I Begin A Career In Copywriting?

How do I begin a career in copywriting?

Is there a well respected program of study in the field...preferably one that helps with employment upon graduation?

I'm already an experienced writer with several years of technical and academic writing under my belt, as well as a few creative writing credits.

Any direction would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!

    Start writing copy! Forgive me for sounding cliche' but "Just Do It!"

    If you already have writing skills, you don't need to waste time on a techncal degree with a "career placement" program. Start studying ads, reading articles here on the site, walk around the stores or imagine products in your haed, get out the pen and paper and start writing, writing, writing.

    Submit some of your examples here in the forum so we can "critique" and guide you.

    As far as careers...Start applying for copywriting positions. Use your previous writing experience as an "in" and present it as an alternative to any ad requiring a degree or experience....apply anyway! You will be surprised how many people will respond and may actually want someone "green" so they can train you the way they want to with out worrying about battling your past copywriting habits.

    I don't know if this will fit your goals, but this place has been recommended or endorsed by Robert Bly and some others, and apparantly includes working on live projects during the training.
