Strategy For Hiring A Marketing Manager

Posted by Anonymous on 125 Points
Red Galoshes is a marketing services company that uses an integrated system of branding, merchandising, marketing, technology, and support to help small businesses sell their products on the internet.

Currently, the responsibilities of developing strategic positions for our merchants and managing marketing initiatives on their behalf is shared by our staff copywriter, graphic designer, and account manager. In an effort to increase the intensity and effectiveness of our marketing "product," we intend to aggregate those shared responsibilities into a new position titled "Marketing Manager." This individual will work with our existing team to develop and execute our marketing initiatives and help us grow revenues for our merchants.

It's important to note that this individual will not be marketing Red Galoshes itself. They will instead be working with our merchants build the merchant's brand and market the merchant's products.

Can anyone point out any potholes that I'm about to walk into by hiring this person? What questions should I be asking candidates? What are key points that should be included in the job description? What are the most important characteristics that I should be looking for in this person? What red flags should I be aware of?
