Six Reasons Your Company Needs Millennials [Infographic]

Despite being digitally savvy, social, and highly ambitious, Millennials (also known as Generation Y) are having a hard time finding work. One out of two recent college graduates are jobless or under-employed

To help managers better understand Millennials and their value, The Young Entrepreneur Council (YEC) partnered with MBA@UNC, the online MBA program at UNC Kenan-Flagler Business School, to share their research about Millennials and create the infographic below.

According to the YEC, the infographic helps managers learn about "how to nurture one of the most idealistic, social, and entrepreneurial generations we have ever seen," and it outlines six reasons for hiring a Millennial:

  1. Millennials want to learn and grow with you.
  2. They are tech-savvy multitaskers.
  3. They can be a social media megaphone for your company.
  4. They are motivated by more than money.
  5. They are mobile.
  6. They want to lead.

You can get more details about the above reasons in the infographic.

Other key findings:

  • One in 3 Millennials said social media freedom at work is a higher priority than salary.
  • 70% of Millennials are planning to change jobs once the economy improves.
  • 92% of surveyed 21-24-year-olds said entrepreneurship education was vital in the new economy.
  • 30% started a business in college.
  • 65% of Millennials said personal development was the most influential factor in their current job.

    This infographic is everywhere!

I would also add that we look to collaborate. We are less concerned with hierarchy and titles and more interested in finding a solution to the challenge.

We like to reach out and work together.

I love the information in this infographic. The Millennial generation is its own breed in a way, different than the ones before. In the workplace this can cause a few misconceptions and contention. Educating Millennials and their managers on the differences in values between the generations can make them be aware and help them develop skills to accommodate each other. The company I work for is studying the challenges Millennials and their managers are seeing in the workplace. We have developed two free assessments that will help illustrate strengths and weaknesses with Millennials and their managers. If you are interested in taking either assessment follow the link:

Once you have completed the assessment we will email you a PDF file of your results.
