Does Paid-for-performance Advertising On Search Engines Mean Organic Search Is Dead?

Posted by Anonymous on 50 Points
In a recent conversation with the CEO of an emarketing company I was told that organic search is almost irrelevant. He said that with the heavy focus on PFP marketing, optimization of the site will do little to ensure a good listing on search engines. I'm interested to hear what others feel about this and reasons why he might be either wrong or right.

Thanks, Richard

Additionally, many google users abandon the paid adverts because they know they're paid adverts, and they trust google to find relevant results from the content of the webpage, not from an advert. Skeptics. All of them!

For searchers looking for the lowest price, they might use FROOGLE, a division of google that auto compares prices for products based on the page content, not adverts. So organic is still relevant.

One thing is true PFP is easier, just throw money at the problem. SEO (Search Engine Optimization) is harder, because you trade hard cash for time and sweat.

Your first clue should have been the fact that you were LISTENING TO A CEO! Ha Ha :-)

It will be interesting to see how exactly this market develops, its started off slowly and extremely cost effective (its almost a 'no brainer' for online businesses).

The next development will be the bar increased (in terms of minimum bid), then there will be a 'minimum spend' model appear!

I can see the costs for advertisers rocketing over the new few years, and then careful justification will have to be sought to take part in these word bids!

If you do choose the PFP route, you DON'T WANT just anyone to click your link (that would be wasteful of your ad spend).
In fact, you ONLY want your prospective customers to click, and you must choose your keywords and description carefully to make sure that happens.
