How Do I Define/redefine The Brand For A Sports Team?

Posted by Anonymous on 250 Points
traditional marketing wisdom says you can't target everybody but rather you need to segment and define your audience. But what about a sports team? the range of fans is incredible when you look at demos and psychographics. so, what should be the STEPS to create (or in this case refine) a brand that all can identify with? also, how do you best go about creating the "position" that the team should own within consumers minds?

I agree with rob and VanSmick completely.

However, the particular sport and country of origin plays a major role in developing a branding technique.

Are you the person associated with either:

    https://www.laoissports.ie/

    or

    https://afl.com.au ?

Of course the answer could also be "neither" or "both"!

Please respond with some specifics as mentioned above for some more region specific strategies.

    Thank You!

Branding is delivering on a promise, not necessarily that the team will constantly win, but things like:

    - As a business you have consistency standards.
    - Does the statium look good
    - Are the team well behaved!
    - Do you have big names in teh team that need exploiting for branding potential.
    - Does the shirt look good. Are the numbers and names on the back big enough!
    - Are they made of a good quality material, especially importat when selling clothing through stores that they will wear well and not fall to bits!
    - Are you a name that suggests trust!
    - Are communications be delivered as expected, with consistant style and messages

    Good Luck
