Help With E-brochure - Need Software Suggestions

Posted by lmfontana on 250 Points
I have to create an electronic brochure for one of my customers from the printed pieces we are developing. I would like some suggestions from the community as to what software to use to do this - have you had better luck using one software over another and what is your personal suggestion? The printed pieces will be laid out in Adobe InDesign CS4. Please let me know if you need more information to answer the question.

Thanks,
Michelle

How would the e-brochure be used or viewed? My initial thought is to just to have inDesign spit out a PDF.

As one of the graphic designers on this forum, my advice is to simply save your InDesign file as a PDF and then reduce its file size with Acrobat so that it's easier to attach to e-mail, and so that it's easier to download and open.

There's no reason at all to make the e-brochure any more complicated that it is. If it has URLs that you'd like to turn into active links, by all means make them active, but it's not necessary to embed large image files into the IDD file because they'll needlessly bump up the size and slow down the download time of your final file.

If you've got a number of high resolution images that MUST appear in your InDesign document, for PDF output your best bet is to either run them through a Photoshop action script to reduce their resolution size from 300dpi down to 72 dpi, or to save the InDesign file as a PDF that's set to its smallest possible file size.

I use the Flipping Book Publishing V2.1 software for all of our electronic brochures and magazines. Link below for example, https://www.tdwilliamson.com/ILI_Brochure/index.html
