Wording As Indepent Instead As Employee

Posted by tobias on 25 Points
I'm thinking to start working as an indepent for my current boss. Now is my question how can it be more interresting for him? Or will it just be more expensive for him? (I live in belgium) thanks for your help!

Why do you need to make it "more interesting"? Why not "more efficient"?

Interesting? Well, yes you will be more expensive while you are actually doing work for him. But when there is no work, your (ex) boss will not have to think about you or keeping you busy. If that was a heavy load on his mind, then that fact may be "interesting" enough to make the switch worthwhile to him.

Think of this in terms of value. What value do you bring to your company - and that means your boss. What value would there be for him in your turning independent?

The point is that whilst it may appear more expensive, it will bring him more money. That is to say, it'll be worth his hiring you as a consultant - because you bring him more than it costs.

If you'll generate more in revenue for your boss as an independent contract that you would as an employee he or she may like the idea. If not, then perhaps, not so much.

The selling point for independent contractors usually is that they are easier to hire/fire/change number of hours than a permanent employee and (assuming they bill by the hour, not something like weekly/monthly) you only pay for the work they do.
