Need Creative Name For Staff Of The Month Program

Posted by susan_rasmus on 125 Points
Do you remember that one teacher from school who stood out above all the rest? How did they positively impact you?

We are creating an Influential Educator of the Month program to recognize teachers (or staff members) who have gone above and beyond in the classroom. Previously the award was given at an end of year banquet and was called the Most Influential Educator Award and was part of our Excellence in Education Program. We want to give it a fresh title if possible. It needs to be catchy and short so students and parents will know what it is and will want to make nominations, but it also needs to hold some prestige for teachers (or staff) so they feel honored in getting the award.

Looking for suggestions for a name for this award.

Why not "[Outstanding] Teacher of the Year?" ("Influential Educator" sounds pretentious to me -- 8 syllables to say "great teacher!")

If it needs to apply to both faculty and staff, how about simply MVP?

Everyone knows what it means, it's certainly prestigious, and it doesn't limit you to faculty alone.

Leave the title of the award just as it is. It does NOT need to be "catchy"— "catchy" is an affectation; it's a BS trip that means nothing. Depending on how long you've had your current title you stand to flush all that goodwill and brand equity down the drain.

At some level this sort of award is likely to backfire - since it has the opportunity to create a feeling of "I should've won". Perhaps a series of "Memorable Teaching Moments" where people can share the story of how someone has made a difference. It'll be much more personal, and more teachers can be "winners".

Thanks to all who shared thoughts on this! Good to get feedback from others outside of our district.
